What does the word 'Megalodon' mean?
'Megalodon' stands for 'Big Teeth', which is actually a very short and clear meaning, and the first teeth found and researched by scientists date from around 20 million years ago.
The search for Megalodon teeth, other evidence and fossils continues today. This means that the Megalodon used to roam the oceans in large numbers.
The beauty of the finds, and therefore the most interesting, is that almost all of them are found in warmer waters. This tells us that the Megalodon particularly favoured warm waters.
The invincible Megalodon
The Megalodon was a fearsome shark from the Miocene and was also the largest species that ever lived on Earth.
Why do I say the largest? The Megalodon could reach a length of 18 metres and weigh 60,000 kilograms. The data collected to this day gives us a lot of information about the Megalodon.
It was a shark that could not be mocked and not many species dared to do so. The shark also had teeth that could reach 19 cm in length.
Small teeth of 4-7 cm
The Megalodon was known for its large teeth. However, not all teeth were of horror length. The Megalodon also had many smaller, also large teeth. Between 4 and 7 centimetres. Moreover, the shark had 5 rows of teeth of different lengths.
The teeth of the Megalodon can be divided into 4 categories: small, medium, large and gigantic. This, of course, makes it very interesting for collectors to have teeth of all sizes. The size of the teeth also makes the price difference, as does the weight.
